Day 5: Behind the desk

Robert was out again, the last day of his vacation. I was left to hold down the fort with Rob and the afternoon crew once more. There was no Texans on Friday so I made my way to the station just before noon to see what I could do.

I was bored.

I filled out my time sheet for the week which took me no more than 10 minutes. Then proceeded to surf the internet for about the next hour. Shortly after 1 o'clock, Rob came in and I was no longer alone. Things started to pick up. Laura came in the room and asked what I was up to. I was given an assignment.

UFC 99 is June 13th in Germany and Sports Radio 610 hosts the 'Bud Light Fight Zone.' Basically a room there at the building they turn into a party room to watch the big event. Laura came in and asked me to do three things for the event. Write up a 30-second promo, write up a liner, both of which would be read over the air. Third, they wanted me to create a webpage for the event including images that would be placed on the sportsradio610.com website homepage.

Fun stuff. I was excited to be able to do something new and it was a challenge to write up the website article and create the images.

After completing that task, I was given a new challenge. The Outdoors Show, Thurs-Sun mornings on SR 610's host Captain Mickey is a part of a giveaway the station is doing. The winner will receive a half-day fishing trip with Captain Mickey upon conclusion the Captain will clean and filet all that is bagged. I wrote up a full page article describing the contest, what the winner gets, the Houston Boat Show and the Outdoors Show. Including images of the Captain, a coupon for a discounted ticket to the Boat Show and the Boat Show logo.

A lot of 'behind the computer' work for me on Friday. Time for Baseball. Off to Reckling to see the Kats take on the Owls!
