Ending another week at Sports Radio 610 and today could have not been more entertaining, and challenging. I was put to new tests and asked to do a few new things that I had not done before. They did not discourage me though, I was happy to be a part.
I started my day after enjoying some great donuts left by my cousin at the station where I helped cut some audio from Daryl Morey who was on Sports Radio 610 earlier in the day talking about the draft.
I cut up three things, made a sheet and then waited around to hear about what was next. I found out that a press conference was my next task. I would be heading to the Toyota Center for a 3:00pm scheduled conference with Daryl Morey along with second round selctions Chase Budinger from University of Arizona and Jermaine Taylor from University of Central Florida.
A good amount of the media was there, and my job was to get all the audio along with video from Taylor. I got what I needed and left. Heading to the Toyota Tundra garage, I was happy I brought my backpack and laptop with me so I could help edit things with my laptop.
When I got to Minute Maid Park, I helped Robert edit the video I got from the Toyota Center while he worked on the audio from the Rockets' press conference.
I learned that Geovanni Mier, the Houston Astros' first round draft pick would also be in attendance at the ballpark, he would be introduced as signing with the team as well as taking some batting practice. I would be going down to get the audio from the press conference similar to what I did at the Toyota Center with the Rockets' additions.
Robert and I went down to the press conference room and I hooked up to the audio box where you can collect the audio that goes out throught the mics on the stage. Mier, along with the scouting director, the scout who found him and GM Ed Wade were on the stage. Manager Cecil Cooper and Pres. Drayton McClaine walked in and sat in the crowd. Mier's mother and brother were also in attendance.
After taking in the presser, I headed to the dugout where the media awaited talking to Cecil Cooper. Mier would then take batting practice. Robert lost a little track of time and had to rush up to the press row for his 4:20 flash.
Cooper talked then I waited around for Mier. I got a couple of videos of him and then headed up to edit it. Robert took care of the audio from Cooper and I handled the video. It was a very busy day and I think me having my laptop made things a lot easier.
By the time I finished the video, the day was over (work-wise) it was already 5:30pm. I decided I was going to stay and take in the ballgame.
