Welcome to Houston...
The fun part of the internship was meeting the players, getting to go to the different events and of course getting a great understanding of what sports radio is like in the professional world. What I had not yet experienced in my 2 weeks there was traffic. O boy... Nothing beats sitting in Houston traffic. At least I have XM Satellite Radio to listen to the entire way there. Hah, I know, I do not even listen to the station or company (CBS) I am interning at.
Monday starts off with Houston Texans practice. I had to go to the station to pick up the marantz to then go get some quality quotes from the players. After the excursion, it was off to editing. It was a normal day at practice, but the unnormal was quickly set off when rookie d-back Glower Quin intercepted a ball near the end of practice. His 4th pick in OTAs.
Back at the station, simple editing and then off to the ballpark. The Rockies were in town. Houston had just won 2 of 3 in a series from Pittsburgh whom they were welcoming in later on in the week, but first it was Colorado, a team starting an 11-game road trip. It was the first of four against the Astros. I wanted to stay for the game, but I wasn't feeling it later on and decided to go.
Interviews as usual. And of course Coop talking about inconsistancies in the clubhouse between himself and the team. It was the first game back after a long roadtrip so of course those questions were going to come.
The Astros went on to win.
