Learning Sugar Land

So having been in Sugar Land now for about 2 weeks, I have had the opportunity to get out beyond the requirements for my internship and explore what the city has to offer.

Being from a large city already, I was already used to the traffic, the amount of stores and the proximity to them all. Staying in New Territory with my folks, it was quite convenient to everything I needed.

I was needing to make some errands today and trips to some new places in town I had not been to yet, but for residents of the town, usual hangouts. I needed to find: Super Target, Academy and Kohl's. I was also going to Wal-mart and Macy's at First Colony Mall, but had been to both of them before in prior ventures.

In driving around, I tried to pay attention to where stores were located, especially the main ones. I hoped to catch what exit they were at so that I could find my way back if need be. Academy was easy to find as it was only a few blocks away, and Kohl's was not too hard to find as a simple trip either up 99 or down 59 to Richmond took me there. Super Target though, (sigh) it was not difficult to find. It was just annoying to get to. Located at Hwy 6 and 59, the building faces 6 but is away from the road so much so its along the 59 access rd down a ways.

I have learned some other things about Sugar Land that I have found interesting. I have learned that the ratio of gas stations to hospitals is about 1 to 1. Its crazy how many hospitals I have seen. (99 and 59) (6 and University) (59 and 6) and all throughout.

I have also learned that along certain roads and in fact along many roads, it is tough to really 'pick out' what the businesses are. The signs in the ground are short and small and the buildings are all built and designed the same with trees covering them to deny any possibility of seeing it from afar. You know its weird when you do a double take looking at a McDonald's that looks nice enough to be a nursing home.

Well, more fun I am sure in store for me here. Thats all for now.
