Day 20: A Pirate's Life

Probably the most exciting time was going to cover the Pirates. Despite the fact they were a losing team and they were in the process of dismantling their team, it was great to cover 'the other side.' I had the chance to do 'stringer' work for a company Radio PA in Pennsylvania. I got paid $25 a day to do it. Sweetness! I loved covering baseball, now my first chance to cover professional baseball and make a buck.

My duties included getting audio from the manager and a few players, then writing and voicing a game wrap of :30sec tied towards Pittsburgh. THEN send the clips, with a cut sheet describing it all to them it PA to use!

Pretty awesome. I did it for Monday's and Wednesday's games. Pirates won the Wednesday game.

Day 19: Paid Entertainment

So I did not mention this last week when I earned the opportunity. I wanted to save it for the day it actually happened. I was forwarded a contact from a company up in Pennsylvania called Radio PA that needed someone to work the game Monday and Wednesday for them. What they needed was sound bites from Pirates players, the managers and a game wrap. I would get $25 for each game.

So yea, $$$ to go to the game. Fun. I knew I would have work to do after the game, and work it was, but it was fun.

I got to the station at noon and was ready to go to the ballpark. We left to go to the ballpark, just like any other day. The day was pretty normal as the Pirates and Astros were getting ready for a 7:05 start. Mike Hampton who was 3-0 over the season against Pittsburgh was on the mound.

Of course I stayed for the game and went to the Pirates locker room afterwards. I collected audio from John Russell (manager), Virgil Vasquez (starting pitcher) and Andy LaRoche (3rd base).

I did not get home till 1am as it took me a while to get back to the studio and get my things recorded. I had issues getting into the building, which was quickly fixed after contacting security. All in all a fun day and experience.

Doing it all again on Wed.
